| For Douglas Henshall, a huge fan of Russian Literature, the role of Levin was a godsend. " Levin is like the voice of Tolstoy," says the Barrhead-born-33-year-old. " He's someone who hides guns and ropes to take away the temptation to shoot and hang himself. Its only the idea of this one perferct woman- Kitty - keeps him alive.." Douglas identified with his character " I like Levin's idealism. I suffer from it myself. And I like the idea there is a woman out there who is perfect." Douglas himself, however, is single and lives in Brixton, South London. Having to enact Levin's wooing on skates did not come easily to him. " It was humiliating," he recalls. " I can't skate to save my life, so when we were filming those scenes, they built me a contraption to keep me upright, and I was being pushed around on this kind of ice-zimmer."
