The Silence
Hunky Douglas Henshall, 44, who starred in Primeval, is soon to appear in BBC thriller The Silence. He talks to us about male grooming and his new superstar wife.

So what can you tell us about The Silence?

Jim defines himself by his job – a Detective Inspector on the Murder Squad. He's very, very good at what he does, is ambitious, competitiv

It's a great drama about an ordinary family where something extraordinary happens. I play the uncle of a deaf girl who comes to stay, and our lives are thrown into turmoil when she witnesses a murder.

We've heard you're heading to Hollywood. Do you fancy the LA life then?

I went out to Los Angeles to find work; there's a lot more going on there than here. I love shows like The Wire and The West Wing so a role in one of those would do just fine!

Do you think you'd succumb to the odd nip and tuck?

I hope not! I'm a 44 year old man from Glasgow - getting my hair cut is about as far as I go. I am vain, but I'm also lazy. I don't use skin lotions; I've tried but I just don't have the discipline. I think a man should be a man.

Congrats on your recent wedding (to Croatian playwright, Tena Stivicic, 33)

Thanks! We got married in Las Vegas and tried to keep quiet about it - until she mentioned it during a magazine chat in Croatia! She's a very big star in the Balkans - I kind of walk three steps behind her. Nobody's interested in what I do; everybody's interested in who she is!

So how did you meet your wife?

At the theatre. I saw a play she'd written but I was more interested in wondering who she was. I acted like a nervous 16 year old boy in that I ignored her, but I eventually got hold of her phone number and we went on a blind date.

What do you think about being a heartthrob?

Well, if people look at me that way then it's always going to be nice and I feel kind of flattered.
