Lara left home convinced that hard work and talent would reward her with a better life. Anton was forced to leave his village and ?nds himself suspended 16 ?oors above a city cleaning windows. Malik stands on a beach and looks out towards a country where women apparently walk around half-naked. Felix, a young businessman with a pretty wife and a lucrative future, finds it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings. Amid the world of visas and wind turbines, commuter flights and nightclubs, fairy tales and tabloid press a chance meeting drives disparate lives towards a chilling point of no return… Following on from Transport’s highly acclaimed revival of David Greig’s 1994 play Europe co-produced by BITE:07 and Dundee Rep Theatre in 2007, INVISIBLE is a new, moving, funny and urgent exploration of migration and globalisation, and, its consequence. INVISIBLE is about journeys, and the convergence of different people and cultures. A handful of souls cross the globe looking for a better life or a life that makes more sense. Often they feel like they’re living in a dream, but not theirs. Their disparate lives become dangerously intertwined, driving them towards a terrible moment of reckoning. INVISIBLE is a collaboration between the theatre director Douglas Rintoul (Barbican, Complicite), award winning dance choreographer Darren Johnston (Array, Roundhouse), Croatia’s leading playwright Tena Stivicic (Arcola, BBC) and a cast of international performers. The piece is an innovative fusion of new writing, movement, the projected word and sound. Immediate and fragmentary narratives are pieced together to create an original piece that looks at the issue of immigration through domestic and poetic forms. The stage, characters and visuals are constantly in flux whilst individual narratives and journeys continually unfold. There are no distinct scenes as such: like in a dream we seamlessly move from one narrative to another, from one time to another through a highly visual and physical theatrical landscape. INVISIBLE asks the question how we define ourselves within the fluid landscape of a globalized world? Tinct scenes as such: like in a dream we seamlessly move from one narrative to another, from one time to another through a highly visual and physical theatrical landscape. British Theatre Director, Douglas Rintoul received grants from the European Cultural Foundation and Arts Council England to develop his new collaborative project Invisible for his company TRANSPORT. The project explores narratives of migration and is a collaboration with the choreographer Darren Johnson and writer Tena Stivicic.
