An ancient sea monster attacks two lifeguards in a municipal swimming pool while a mother makes a terrifying discovery.
Cutter is desperate to make Lester realise the seriousness of the situation, but infuriatingly Lester remains optimistic that this problem will disappear as quickly as it arrived. But he's out of luck as the arrival of a vicious sea creature (a Mosasaur) at a local pool means bad news all round: particularly for a pair of young lifeguards flouting the heavy petting ban. The boy becomes the Mosasaur's next meal and the girl is charged with his murder. However, when the boy's regurgitated body is found in a nearby reservoir Cutter realises the truth they've got a prehistoric killer in their waters.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, the anomaly which this particular nasty came through is a mobile one, and has moved from the swimming pool to the depths of the reservoir. The team work hard to find it and contain it but how can you plug a leak in time?
When a military diver working alongside the teams disappears into the darkness of the anomaly, and another ferocious Mosasaur is unleashed to attack an unsuspecting Abby, it’s clear that the reservoir has become a death trap.

Cutter thinks the anomaly is running along a kind of temporal fault line, but without proof Lester is quick to dismiss his ideas as outlandish. Meanwhile a young mother who lives along Cutter’s predicted line is putting her washing on in the basement when she notices a small leak, which quickly turns into a flood. When she sends a plumber down to investigate, she has no idea a Cretaceous creature is waiting under the water, ready to pounce.
But there are more surprises to come. The anomaly in the cellar expels the body of the lost diver, and there is a message tied to his corpse. Claudia's suspicions are suddenly realised: Helen Cutter is still alive. A furious confrontation with Nick reveals his awareness of her existence. Now he must pay the price for his betrayal.
