February 13th 2008 On Monday, episode six writer Paul Cornell wrote on his blog Two good things are happening at once this weekend. First off, I’m pleased to say that the penultimate episode of Primeval, written by your truly, will be showing on ITV1 on Saturday evening. It’s got a Columbian Mammoth on a motorway, and that’s just the starting point for a lot of twists and turns concerning the series’ ongoing plot threads this year, all leading into Adrian Hodges’ action-packed season conclusion next week. Do give it a glance. More info. He told the Forbidden Planet blog: I’m pulling a lot of those threads together and setting it up for Adrian’s big finale episode. I love the idea of changing the show’s format via time travel. That’s got to be a first. It’s so brilliantly daring! More info. In the March issue of SFX magazine (published today). Hannah Spearritt talks about filming scenes in Primeval before the CGI is added and says of Douglas Henshall: I was just watching Dougie Henshall the other day, and a sabre-tooth tiger was right on him pouncing on him, circling ready to attack. There was obviously nothing there, and I was watching him because he was doing such a brilliant job, as if it was there. I almost saw it there at the time because of how well he was acting it. SFX magazine is available from all good newsagents in the UK or can be bought online direct from the official website. More info. Unfortunately last month's issue of SFX has now sold out. Starburst, TVZone and Cult Times can be found at some newsagents. But you can buy them online at the official site of the magazines' publishers Visual Imagination. More info. February 12th 2008 Many thanks to 'Flux Am' who runs the Primeval ITV group at Facebook for reminding me that the March issue of TVZone has now been published. In it Andrew-Lee Potts talks about the finale of Primeval Series 2: The nickname for episode 7 is boringly the ‘The Finale’, though references to it as ‘The Menagerie’ hint at the multiplicity of threats the team will be facing. Andrew-Lee Potts says: I think they’ve set it up very well, the way the series ends, because the last series was ‘Oh my gosh, the whole character’s disappeared through what we did in Time. How are they going to do?’ This series is just bang, bang, bang, bang! And then the last thing that it ends on, when I read it I got goose bumps! A match for last year? This one’s even better! I know next year, because I think they’re commissioning the scripts and stuff to go for next year – it’s not been commissioned as a show yet because ITV don’t work like that, unlike BBC where I think they do; ITV still want to see their figures and still know that it’s doing well, but they still commission the scripts. So we went for a read –through the other day with Adrian for this block and Adrian was starting to come up with storylines that happen next and it’s really mad. Adrian keeps his cards very close to his chest, which I think really is wise, he just gives us little teasers, which keep us going, but the overall plan of the whole thing is……it’s mad. But I think next year they have plans to do quite a bit more. So it’ll turn into a full time job. In the February issue of Deathray magazine Adrian Hodges also talks about Series 3: The intention is that Primeval will run for more than three series-for as long as people want to watch it in fact -, though there are aspects of the central story arc that are designed to be resolved by the end of our third year. But that will no means be a finishing point. Read more here (dedicated to Becky!) It is thought that Primeval Series 3 will have thirteen episodes. The production team have said that it will go into production in March 2008. It was originally thought, filming would begin as early as January 2008.
