CAST BIOGRAPHIES:

Bill Nighy — Dan
Bill Nighy is known for his gifted contribution to British theatre, and now divides his time between the stage and screen, with notable performances in the forthcoming Lucky Break, directed by The Full Monty’s Peter Cattaneo and Still Crazy, directed by Brian Gibson, for which he won the Evening Standard - Peter Sellers’ Award for best comedy performance in 1998. Recent films include Blow Dry co-starring Rachel Griffiths, Guest House Paradiso, starring and directed by Adrian Edmondson, the enchanting Fairy Tale—A True Story directed by Charles Sturridge, Alive and Kicking directed by Nancy Meckler and produced by Martin Pope and True Blue based on the annual Varsity Boat Race. His other films include Phantom of the Opera as Barton in 1989, Reilly, Ace of Spies and Julian in Being Human directed by Bill Forsyth.

Recent performances on the stage include the highly acclaimed Blue/Orange directed by Roger Michell at the National Theatre, which transfers to the West End in Spring 2001, A Kind of Alaska for Karel Reisz at the Donmar and Skylight for Richard Eyre also at the National Theatre. At home on the stage, Bill has worked with directors including David Hare on productions of King Lear, Pravda and Map of the World and with Trevor Nunn in Arcadia. On television, Bill is perhaps best remembered for his role as Mark Carleton in the ground breaking BBC drama The Men’s Room, directed by Antonia Bird. Recent television appearances have included, PD James - Unnatural Causes for Anglia TV and the acclaimed Longitude for Channel 4.

Tom Hollander — Nick
A versatile British actor, Tom Hollander’s film credits include the award-winning Some Mother’s Son co-starring Aidan Gillen, True Blue directed by Ferdinand Fairfax and the popular British comedies Martha Meets Frank, Daniel and Lawrence, co-starring Joseph Fiennes and Bedrooms and Hallways co-starring Kevin McKidd and Hugo Weaving. Recent films have seen Hollander co-star with Nigel Hawthorne in the critically acclaimed The Clandestine Marriage and with Hugh Laurie in Ben Elton’s comedy Maybe Baby. Forthcoming films include Michael Apted’s WWII drama, Enigma with Kate Winslet and Neil La Bute’s Possession with Gwyneth Paltrow.


Television appearances include the recent adaptation of Nicholas Nickelby co-starring Charles Dance, lead roles in the prominent BBC dramas Wives and Daughters and John Diamond as well as a memorable cameo as Saffie’s boyfriend in Absolutely Fabulous. A regular actor on stage as well as screen, Tom Hollander has worked with renowned directors such as Richard Eyre in The Judas Kiss and Jonathan Kent in the lead role in Tartuffe both at the Almeida, Stephen Daldry in The Editing Process and productions of Kean in Toronto and The Cherry Orchard at the Aldwych for Sam Mendes.
Clémentine Célarié — Corinne

With over 30 films to her credit, Clémentine is a familiar actor to French cinema and television. Her films include the award-winning 37†2 Le Matin (Betty Blue), directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, starring Beatrice Dalle, Les Nuits Fauves (Savage Nights), directed by Cyril Collard, co-starring Romane Bohringer, Toxic Affair, directed by Philomène Esposito, Claude Lelouch’s Les Miserables du 20eme Siecle, set during WWI starring Jean Paul Belmondo and Reines D’un Jour, directed by Marion Vernoux. Lawless Heart marks Clémentine’s second British film after her recent role as Vivenne, in the comedy Room to Rent, directed by Khalid Al-Haggar, co-starring Juliette Lewis and Rupert Graves. A French household name, Clémentine’s television appearances include La Femme D’un Seul Homme, directed by Robin Renucci, Objectif Bac, La Tribu de Zoe (Zoe’s Tribe), Les Enfants du Jour, directed by Harry Cleven and Les Coquelicots sont Revenus (Red Poppies are Back), directed by Richard Bohringer.

Josephine Butler — Leah
Since graduating from the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, with The Stage - Drama Student of the Year Award, Josephine has appeared on stage and screen. Her film roles include the boxing thriller, Shiner directed by John Irvin, starring Michael Caine, Up Stood the Ape directed by Heidi Easton, Out of Depth, for Steon Films and Sleep directed by Ian Cottage. Television appearances have included the lead in the Ruth Rendell mystery Going Wrong for Meridian, as well as prominent parts in the BBC dramas Second Sight and Dalziel and Pascoe. Josephine has also performed on stage in The Blue Room, Sto
rm and Ghost Sonata and Watching the Sand from the Sea.

Ellie Haddington — Judy
As a seasoned actor, Ellie Haddington’s film roles include Breathtaking, directed by David Green, Creatures, directed by Bill Eagles and Bombshell, directed by Mehdi Nerozian. As well as appearances in many long running British television series, Ellie became an established figure in Coronation Street between ‘94 and ‘96 playing Josie Clark. Ellie has also appeared in Granada’s award-winning series Cracker, dramas such as In Suspicious Circumstances, Looking after Jo Jo with Robert Carlyle and the recent BBC television drama The Wyvern Mystery co-starring Derek Jacobi and Jack Davenport. Her stage work includes classic theatrical productions such as the RSC production of Richard III directed by Sam Mendes at the National Theatre, lead roles in Mother Courage at the National Theatre and Duchess of Malfi. A versatile actor, Ellie also appeared in the one-woman show—Female Parts directed by Sheryl Crown.

Stuart Laing — David
Stuart has appeared in a number of recent, British independent films including SW9, directed by Richard Parry, The Truth Game written and directed by Simon Rumley and the black comedy Milk, starring Dawn French and James Fleet. He recently starred in the television drama The Land of Plenty, directed by Hettie Macdonald (Beautiful Thing) and Andrew Moore. Stuart’s other features include Strong Language, directed by Simon Rumley and Gaston’s War directed by Robbe De Hert. As well as appearances in popular, British television series, other notable roles include the BBC drama, Berkeley Square and Love Bites-In Your Dreams for BBC 2.

Stuart is also a regular performer of modern British theatre, with recent productions at the newly opened Soho Theatre in Billy & the Crab Lady and Food for Thought, both directed by Mark Brickman. He also appeared in Bad Company at the Bush Theatre and Hushabye Mountain, both directed by Paul Miller.

Sukie Smith — Charlie
Sukie’s most recent film roles include Clotilde Raquet in Mike Leigh’s Oscar Award-winning, Topsy-Turvy, the short films 875, for Lichelli Lazar-Lea and Hoppy, for Sasha Daminovsky. Other lead roles include Rita in 1997’s Peggy Su! directed by Frances Ann Solomon and Adele in Madeleine Hall’s Asking For it. Television appearances include Innocents for Channel 4 and The Paul Merton Show for Carlton and roles in popular British dramas such as Inspector Morse. Her stage work includes Claptrap and On the Side of Angels as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
