How did you get into poker?

I did it as a bit of research actually for a play I was doing. All I did was read a book by Herbert Yardley called the Education of a Poker Player and foolishly went to the Victoria Casino in Edgware Road and I thought I had enough information to be able to sit down with those guys, but thankfully, I only took fifty quid with me, which they very gratefully took from me in about twenty minutes and I walked away. But that was the first time I ever played poker for money.

Do you play with the same group of friends or do you go on his own?

No, I play mainly tournaments. I kind of go on my own. I don’t necessarily think the idea of sitting down with your mates and taking money of them is a good idea, so I try to go on my own.

Does you play online?

I used to but I don’t anymore. I’ve made a deal with my girlfriend that I play live twice a week, but I don’t play online anymore.

Does your girlfriend play?

No, she doesn’t.

So no arguments there then?

No (laughs). I don’t know if I should be telling you all that actually. Never mind.

Who would you most like to play  poker with?

I think I would have to go for a guy who’s still alive. I’d like to be able to sit down at a table with Gus Hansen, just to see if I could play eight four off suits against him and win.
