Douglas Henshall appeared with Kim Cattrall in Josie Rourke’s production of David Mamet’s The Cryptogram, which opened at the Donmar on 17 October 2006 (previews from 12 October) and continued until 25 November 2006.

In Mamet’s three-hander about the end of childhood, John is afraid to fall asleep because he doesn’t understand what’s happening or why his father hasn’t returned home.

Henshall played Del, a friend of John’s father and Cattrall, John’s mother Donny. The child’s part of John was shared at alternating performances by Joe Ashman, Adam J Brown and Oliver Cooper-Smith.

Henshall’s other stage credits include
Death of a Salesman (for which he was nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Supporting Actor), Darwin in Malibu, The Coast of Utopia and The Crucible. On screen, he has been seen in This Year’s Love, The Strange Case of Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle, Anna Karenina and Psychos. He is currently starring in ITV1's new science fiction series Primeval.

Why  director Josie Rourke cast Douglas Henshall as Del :

"in everything I've seen him do, he's been an actor of extreme directness, a thrilling actor. But he also has the ability to make delicate moments shocking."
