| Primeval films in John Lewis On Saturday June 11th – Monday June 13th ,Velociraptors were filmed stalking their prey in John Lewis in Kingston for season 2 of ITV's hit sci-fi show Primeval. The branch starred in ITV sci-fi drama Primeval along with Douglas Henshall (pictured with young fans above) and former S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt. In series 2 you'll see a 70-million-year-old velociraptor wreak havoc in a shop's china and glass department. The producer Paul Frift said: "There are about 65 or 70 crew here. John Lewis has wonderful architecture for the scenes we are doing. It's family entertainment. Impossible Pictures has also shot scenes in the Bentall Centre, town centre and at a cinema complex in Feltham, all of which will be brought together in one rip-roaring on-screen rampage through a leisure centre. John Lewis will donate its entire £4,000 to £5,000 fee to the Princess Alice Hospice, its chosen charity for the year. Store manager Andy Leyton said: "The money for the hospice is fantastic news for the community, and how often do you get a dinosaur wrecking a John Lewis shop?" Shop events co-ordinator Julie Washbrook said the branch landed the role thanks to its looks and the director (Jamie Payne) shopping there. 'The director was in Kingston, walked into the store and took one look at the open-plan layout and the atrium and had a vision of a pterodactyl swooping down. He then approached us,' said Julie. Partners and their children were invited to watch as filming followed the path of destruction left by a pack of raptors hunting their prey around the store. They actually bought some old fixtures and a load of John Lewis china – and then smashed it all up The damage came to £400 worth of china, but the crew were able to clean up the mess and have the shop floor ready for business by the morning. Filming was originally supposed to be for just one night, but the director kept finding more places he wanted to shoot. In the end, the crew were in the store over three separate nights filming in four departments and the car park. |
